300+ Artists Show with the FLOW Northside Arts Crawl

Hard to believe but the FLOW Northside Arts Crawl is celebrating over ten years of sharing the work and stories of the scores of artists who live and create on Minneapolis’ Northside. The 11th Annual FLOW Northside Arts Crawl is set for Thursday, July 28 through Saturday July 30!

Growth of FLOW is nothing short of phenomenal. In its first year, 2006, the Arts Crawl drew 1000 attendees who had a chance to visit just 20 artists at six locations; last year there were 10,000 visitors and some 300+ artists at 25 unique studios, galleries, theaters, commercial and vacant spaces throughout the community.

Highlights of FLOW Northside Arts Crawl include the Plymouth Avenue Block Party on Thursday, July 28 and an evening of live performances and gallery receptions on Friday. On Saturday art crawlers can spend the entire day visiting the artists’ studios along West Broadway from the Mississippi River to Penn Avenue.

A special feature of this summer’s Art Crawl is the chance to stroll and admire the installation of over $100,000 of artist-designed projects that are part of the West Broadway Arts Initiative funded by ArtPlace America. The project has added planters, benches, bike racks and information kiosks created by Northside artists as well as a new public plaza that will soon offer a robust agenda of programming.

You can pause for lunch or a snack at one of the food vendors or restaurants that offer a wide variety of treats for the hungry/thirty art lover.

FLOW is clearly a community engagement process, with impetus and support coming from the West Broadway Business and Area Coalition. This year the Coalition has worked with the City of Minneapolis, the Great Streets Facade Improvement Program and McKnight Art Façade Improvement Program to provide matching grants for storefront improvements. A highlight for FLOW visitors this summer is a chance to see and enjoy the results as you amble from studio to studio.

FLOW’s Facebook actually “overflows” with stunning photos and videos of what to expect. https://www.facebook.com/FLOW-Northside-Arts-Crawl-124146000938736/

FLOW: Northside Arts Crawl – Triumph of Art and a Community in Minneapolis

For weeks now residents and friends of North Minneapolis have crawled – and climbed and cut and commiserated with those whose homes and lives were blasted by the tornado.  On Saturday, July 30, the FLOWNorthside Arts Crawl will bring beauty, talent, and a sense of peace, order and gratitude to this annual event.

Promotional materials state it best:  “FLOW is an arts crawl that shines a light on the Northside through the arts.  It unites, celebrates and transforms in collaboration with the broader communities that surround us.”

FLOW Northside Arts Crawl, now is its sixth year, is a free, family event that runs all afternoon (3:00-8:00 p.m.) throughout the Northside community.  Attendees enjoy a self-guided tour featuring visual and performing arts showing at businesses, studios and organizations along West Broadway; see the website for a good map which includes a free shuttle that runs on Broadway all afternoon,

Artists and programs are listed on Facebook or Twitter.  They include a KFAI stage, an artisan market, outdoor community Zumba dance classes, Latin music ensembles and dance, spoken word performances, a silent auction and much more.  A special feature this year is a grand recognition of tornado volunteers who will pose for a massive group photo.

You’ve heard and seen the devastation – come now and see the beauty, resilience and creative energy – the FLOW – of the Northside!
